FORGET GOSPEL ILLUSION IS A QUICK AND EASY TO LEARN MINISTRY

One mistake many make when beginning to learn illusion is that it is easy. Learning an effect with a change bag to tell a story is not difficult to learn to manipulate. But the more you learn, the more you will need to stretch yourself.

Basic sleight of hand is almost a must for every illusionist, Gospel or otherwise. When you have a chance to share the message of Christ, you may not always have one of your fancy boxes or hidden pocket silks with you. So a little skill can go along way. Consider the following routine using a move known as a French Drop (see a basic coin magic book for illustrations on how to do this procedure).

“You see this United States coin? It says something on it that is found on all US currency. Four simple yet powerful words – ‘In God We Trust.’ I don’t know about you, but that is pretty reassuring to me. You see no matter what comes my way; I know God will get me through it. Unlike money (do the French drop move) when you share your trust in God with someone, you haven’t lost anything. Money when you give it away…it’s gone. (show hand they thought the coin was in empty) With God’s love found in His trust (reach in to pocket with hand palming the coin and appear to be removing the coin) you will never run out of it.

“You see God tells us in Mark 16:15 that we are to ‘Go into all the world preaching the Gospel to every creature everywhere.’ Can’t help but think that the people who designed our coins were

Christians and they wanted to get that message out. And you can find American coins carrying that simple message all over the world.

“So I ask you, what are you going to do with that message? Are you going to (do the French drop move again) hold on to it tightly and not share it with others? Well they say ‘you can’t take it with you.’ (show hand empty) Well like a person should generously and cheerfully share the money they have been provided, we need to share our faith and be in service to God. Or as it says in James 1:22, ‘Be doers of the word, and (reach with hand palming the coin and “pull it from the persons ear) not hearers only.’”

See how one simple sleight of hand move can accomplish quite a bit. Imagine the possibilities when more skills are learned.
