FORGET - WHEN STARTING - ABOUT PURCHASING A LOT OF UNIQUE
"ONE USE" ITEMS

You attend your first Gospel illusion conference and get fired up about getting involved in the art form. To really make a commitment, you purchase several effects that looked neat from the stage, only to get them home and discover they are not really that easy to perform, really don’t fit your style, or find they can only be used for one story. Suddenly you have stuff you can’t use, or at least use very much.

When starting out learning illusion, it is always good to wisely select effects that don’t lock you into just one illustration. Pray for wisdom. Ephesians 1:16-18 says, “…making mention of you in prayer that our Lord Jesus Christ may give you a spirit of wisdom…that you may know what…He has called you to…” Let God lead you in wisdom and guide all that you do. There are many items like change bags, dove pans, thumb tips can be used for various presentations, and even repeated for the same crowds, just not in the same show, with different applications. Also a lot of routines have been written for these particular effects.

Once the basics are learned, that is the time to start looking for more unique effects once you have some experience. But when doing so, add them slowly. No one generally gets interested and then can do an hour program on their first outing.
